For those who have kept rectum after colectomy- any gas?

Just curious if a closed off post colectomy rectum can still generate any gas or farts? i assume not?! I know it can generate a tiny bit of mucus and for some, even blood but I assume gas is impossible.

I had a total proctocolectomy 6 weeks ago...colon, anus, rectum...gone. I was NOT sewn up because my surgeon felt I was too sick to handle healing from that wound along with everything else. For the first week or two after surgery, mucous would randomly leak from my bum. Once things healed up more, I became able to control when the mucous comes out, and I do pass some most every time I pee. When mucous builds up it sometimes feels like I have to have a BM or fart, but if I give in to that urge, mucous will just come out. There is no gas ever.

Highly unlikely they will leave your rectum if you have UC or Chrons. I still have my anus but my rectum is long gone as well as the other parts of the colon. I have very minor secretions and no real gas, where would it come from? I opted to leave my anus when I had my J pouch removed as I did not want to undergo the additional surgery and healing, so far I am very happy with the decision.
