The barium enema revealed that the hole in my anastamosis site is still there from when I had the drainage tube. I'm upset, but it is what it is. I had to hurry up and order more supplies since I used mine up. June 14th is when it will hopefully happen for real.

Sorry about your takedown being postponed. Mine was delayed a little bit too because of an abscess I had that had to be totally healed. Hang in there....June is right around the corner!

I'm sorry Sara:( I found out I had a leak about a month ago so I know how you are feeling. A month will go by quick. You've come a long way.

I mean I guess I can't complain too much. I'm not sick and I gained 9 pounds since my last visit putting me within normal weight range for my height. I can start exercising again. Even though my stoma is pretty much flush with my skin at this point I haven't had issues since using convex wafers. My surgeon also said my stoma is a bit "tight." I need to avoid the harder to digest foods. I've had stoma buddy for 16 months now, what is another 6 weeks?

It's all relative. I'd be thrilled if I could have takedown in 6 months' time, let alone 6 weeks.

Aw, sorry to hear that, but you're right, six weeks isn't long at all. It's too bad you had to make the trip to CC only to be turned away -- they can't do the imaging remotely to save you a trip?

Just wondering about this "Even though my stoma is pretty much flush with my skin at this point" -- has your stoma been retracting over time? Or did it start out flush? I didn't realize it was a danger that a stoma could become flush... sigh, one more thing to worry about!

My end ileo always stuck out nicely. My loop got smaller and smaller and barely sticks anymore. Loops tend to be more of a pain. It was already fixed once, because it was so far in that it was leaking into the j-pouch. My surgeon didn't bother messing with it this time because I only have 6 weeks left with it. I think it just wants to go back where it came from.

CC is a 3 hour drive so it kind of sucked to go all the way there. Even if I found somewhere to get the imaging done near my hometown I am pretty sure my surgeon still would have wanted to do an exam under anesthesia to get a better look, which he did yesterday. I feel safer making the trip because the hospitals around here aren't too familiar with J-pouches.

sara.. I know that news sucks for you... but far better too find out now than when you were connected. As once its connected .. if there is a leak.. that just opens a huge can of worms.
And so smart of you.. just make the drive to CC. What's a mere 3hours to get proper care. And plout/liz.. good docs at good places like to have imaging done at their own facilities as there are better qualified radiologist docs reading the images.
And if you have to go to a more soft or liquid diet for awhile.. its really no big deal. Think about the prize in the end! Just remember to get your full nourishment.. so make the blender your friend.

Good luck on that little leak healing quickly.
