Hello, I'm new here & joined to try to find some answers for my mom. She is 72 years old. She first had her ileostomy surgery at age 45 with the intent of switching to the pouch soon after. The pouch surgery went awry, and she barely made it through- fighting infection, etc. Needless to say, she decided to stick with the ileostomy and the rest is history. She has had very little problems with it over the years; save those that were brought on by dehydration. (A constant battle because she likes to diet & "just forgets" to drink sometimes.)
To add more excitement to the mix, she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's this past year, so her nutrition has been complicated even further since she no longer cooks.
Here is my question. She has been plagued with gas pains recently. She experiences it on a daily basis, it seems, and it gets particularly worse when she travels- especially on an airplane. But even during her daily routine, she almost always has a stomach ache & her bag is full of air. Does anyone have any remedies for gas pains like this? She takes Gas-Ex and her physician prescribed Lomotil. Nothing seems to help.
Thank you!
