Stomach now super sensitive to medication?

I think that everything you're throwing up besides the antibiotic is a narcotic. It's very common for oral narcotics to make people throw up, even if they were fine w/the IV version. Often people are sensitive to one type of narcotic but not another. I was up all night vomiting dilaudid the night after my surgery (and of course, I had stopped taking it once I started throwing up -- so it definitely can make you vomit more than once), but I was OK with oxycodone (percocet). You might be sensitive to many narcotics.

Which antibiotic was it? Flagyl makes me really nauseous, and I'm sure that many antibiotics can also cause nausea.

Had you ever had any of these drugs before your surgery? You could very well have trouble with the drugs, unrelated to the surgery. Have you talked to a gi about this?

I have only heard of people having trouble with "oral medications" as a class when they have mechanical issues w/swallowing etc. But the transition from IV to oral narcotics is a very common problem for many people.

After the awful night w/dilaudid, I decided to only take tylenol, and I was OK with that.... the vomiting was way worse than the level of pain on tylenol; perhaps because my surgery was lapro, the pain wasn't that bad. For my second surgery, I was very concerned, and we tried the percocet and it was OK....

You're clearly drug sensitive, so if you do have another surgery, definitely would be good to work out the pain meds in advance. Perhaps a patch is the answer; I don't know enough to comment.

I don't know about that antibiotic either. But it seems you have enough evidence that you have a lot of drug sensitivities to have doctors take that into consideration whenever you are prescribed anything.... It also sounds like maybe zofran doesn't work for you and there's something else you can try in that department.

There are tons of anti-nausea meds.... many have been developed for people undergoing chemo. I had something called tigan that I took w/the flagyl.... but I don't know that that's all that strong. Don't know enough to offer any specific advice, other than talk to your doctors and get a plan....

Definitely the antibiotic can be causing you problems. You do need to let your docs know because if you are upchucking an oral antibiotic, it probably isn't helping with your infection. I too am extremely drug sensitive. I was in the hospital earlier this year and I was throwing up and then endlessly dry heaving while on NPO and two IV antibiotics. Zofran does absolutely nothing for me. Phenegram makes me loopy. After several days, a nurse suggested reglan for the nausea and that did help.
