Is this possible?

I have started using the Eakin ring with my wafer and have had no problems with the skin right around my stoma but since starting to use these rings the skin on the outer edges under the "band-aid" part has had a lot of breakdown. My question is could it possibly be due to stool leaking between the ring and the wafer?

That does sound a little strange. When you apply the wafer over the Eakin, are you pressing around the part closest to your stoma to make sure it's really on there? Someone on this site, I think it was Brian84, taught me a trick where I use an empty paper towel roll to press right around my stoma after putting on a new appliance. It applies pressure all around at the same time and has worked wonders.

Just saw your post now Pluot, I'll have to see if my store carries that brand. I just did a change and the skin hasn't gotten any better so I cleaned the are, and am doing the "crusting" technique but with a barrier spray instead of wipe, then applied Eakin and wafer then used an empty toilet roll to apply pressure evenly.
Hopefully this works and the skin starts to heal!
I am going to call hollister tomorrow to see if they have any suggestions as the ostomy nurse at my hospital still has not called me back!
