I was an exercise maniac before my surgery - even during flares- and now that another 6 weeks of "no lifting (etc) more than weight of a jug of milk" thing has been tacked on right after my original 6 week limit (additional 6 tacked in for plastic surgery to fix a slow healing incission) I am losing my sanity. I walk, and walk, and walk- have clocked up to 8 miles one day- but it sure gets old. i am start g to use 5 lb "baby" weights and it's better than nothing. I have the energy to do lots more- heck I feel I could play tennis again right now- but am being by the book so as not to herniate anything or pop my incission. My main energy drain , as a workoutaholic, is that this inactivity drags me down. The endorphins release of having my pulse up near max for a while is especially missed, as is exhausting my muscles in the gym.
What have others of you managed while waiting for the weight restriction to end? (i interpret the weight restriction to also be a restriction on somewhat vigorous moves as might hapoen in racket sports). I am thinking about biking but will wait to see what my plastic surgeon thinks. If I could bike, then I could get my pulse up much higher than this boring walking; running is out for me as my knees dont really tolerate it on a sustained basis (as opposed to running bck and forth on a tennis court). Swimming is out because of the incission for the next month, when all the final sutures will come out.
