Hi all, It has been 3.5 months of my total colostomy and the surgeon has given me green light for step 2 on October 8th.
As the days pass, more and more questions come to mind, this because I feel great. I eat and drink whatever I want, I sleep with only 1 wake up at mid night, I work hard long hours, and I have my golf game back to were it was before UC (8 index)..... Still would like to get rid of the bag, but looking at all the posts it seems there's risk and it's not as low as you would want.
Right now I have 2 questions and I would very much appreciate if your can share the experience.
1. Difference for an end ileostomy and a loop ileostomy. I understand the science but not the behavior, as said my end ileostomy is a charm, behaves excellent never a problem and believe me I have put it to the test. the only time I had a small blockage was when I ate 300g of salted peanuts and on the spot a huge banana, still it resolved by it self (painfully), I change my 2 piece bag every 7 days and sometimes I stretch it, even going to the gym and playing golf 3 times a week !!. will the loop ileostomy behave as nice ?? Its supposed to be for 2 months only, but if the J-pouch doesn't work, they will have to reverse. Will I get back to my nice end ileo ??
2. As all of us that have had a total colostomy, I get mucus from the rear. I usually use a Mesalazine suppository after I go, this keeps the mucus from coming out at least for 3 to 4 days. If I don't use the suppository then I will go every day, and mucus gets thinner and thinner, redder and redder. Here's the question:
When you go to step 2, they take out the rest of the rectum that they kept, but still leave a tiny bit of it. As for my mucus generation goes, I understand that I'm not in remission yet. So, what will happen if that tiny bit of rectum flares up ?? will I be needing to write those sad posts some write ?? Believe me I'm total emphatic with them. what is the real threat of step 2 ??
Sorry for long post, Thanks ....
I only had 1 UC flare and that was IT ...... NOTHING worked, total colostomy in 2 months of the explosion.
