NascaRon used to post his products and application technique for others. Ron is no longer around the board and his posts have all disappeared. I saved one of his posts with products and routine and want him to have the credit. I will re-post his routine below.
Using most of NascaRon's directions and similar products was my starting point. I don't shave, use Stomahesive Strips or a belt [many swear by the belts]. I need the Convatec
convex moldable wafer and only occasionally use the M9 Drops.
Polish Dan has made me a believer in the "Tincture of Benzoin" that he highly recommends. I use the swabs and apply generously around my stoma and any irritated areas and let it dry, thoroughly. For my last 2 changes I have also used Nexcare Liquid Bandage Spray by 3M [exact formula as Cavilon, but much cheaper] on top of the "T of B" and covering the area that will be under the wafer. My skin is looking very well, right now.
During application, I am very "anal" about
heat & pressure. I use my hairdryer to warm both my Eakin & my wafer right before placing them, separately. I then alternate heat & pressure over all for 3 mins or so once the wafer is applied, and before applying the Sure Seal. I am careful to shield my stoma from the heat with my "gadget" linked to below. Attaching the pouch is last.
Upon switching to a whole Eakin, Convatec Convex Moldable [applied diamond-shaped], Sure Seals and my heat & pressure routine all at the same time, something finally clicked and saved my sanity. I am now consistently getting 7+ days wear, up from only 2-hrs to 2-days wear.
There is one other thing I do during my pressure step to help solidly set the Eakin & wafer. There is a product available for quite a bit of money, but there are alternatives to the concept. It is the Equalizer by Stomaplex--nothing more than a section of rubber tubing. You can see how it works and there are a couple of videos within this first link below. I went to Lowe's and bought a foot of rubber tubing and my son cut me off a 2-inch piece--and it worked perfectly. The second link is to my "gadget" found in the PVC plumbing department at Home Depot. These caps can be purchased in different sizes depending on stoma size and flange size. All the same concept of even and steady pressure on the wafer around the stoma where it may be hard to get fingers into. Even the top of a correctly sized empty bottle would work. I use my "gadget" now in place of the rubber tubing because it also works to shield my stoma from the heat of my hairdryer.

1. After I remove my old appliance I wash my skin with Antibacterial Soap (Dial).
2. I clean ALL adhesive from my skin with the Uni-Solve Wipes. If any of the previous seal is left to my skin, I lightly scrape it off. before using the Uni-Solve Wipes.
3. I shave my every piece of skin that will have something sticking to it, completely free of hair and wash my skin again with Dial Soap.
4. Once my skin is completely clean, dry and hair free I apply a good coating of No-Sting Skin-Prep to all skin that will have something sticking to it. I am careful not to touch my skin after this step.
5. Once my skin is dry I cut a 3/4” piece of Stomahesive Strip to fill in beside my stoma on my bellybutton side since it slightly dips down there. Then I shape the hole of the Eakin Seal to just slide over my stoma without touching the flat sides of the Eakin Seal with my fingers. I use the paper rounds it was wrapped in to put it in place over my stoma. I don't apply the Eakin Seal to my wafer because I like to make it fit tight to my stoma.
6. I then roll back the center of the Moldable Skin Barrier just enough to fit over my stoma and apply it over my stoma on top of the Eakin Seal and roll the center back against my stoma. I apply it in a diamond shape so one corner covers my belly button.
7. I then apply a Sure Seal overtop of that to help seal the Skin Barrier.
8. I then attach my Pouch, add m9 drops and close the tail. I add m9 drops each time I empty the pouch also.
9. After everything is in place, I attach an Ostomy Belt. I only make it tight enough to hold everything down. I don't make it real tight. I don't notice it's there unless I see it. Don't be afraid of using an ostomy belt... It's a very small cloth/elastic band that you don't even realize you are wearing.
10. Once everything is in on I lightly press everything against my skin with my fingers.
