Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Hey guys
I just had really intense pain off and on for the past three hours. It started before lunch but I thought I was hungry. I didn't have anything that usually causes blockages, and I did not overindulge. I was peeing fine too. The pain was really intense and came in waves lasting for a minute every few minutes. My output was normal as well. It has resolved now but the last few hours were awful. I even threw up a bit as well. The pain was in my pelvis, back and stomach but not really around my stoma. Do you guys think this was a blockage? Thanks!

It wasn't your gallbladder or liver was it?

It sounds like a possible blockage to me. You can throw up from blockages or you can throw up from pain though. If the blockage happens higher in the intestines, you can have some output for awhile and it won't hurt around the stoma necessarily. If it keeps happening, you should see your surgeon or GI.

I have been thinking a lot about my food intake yesterday and the only thing I did differently wa eat a whole banana. I usually eat bananas in smoothies only. The pain started about two hours after eating this. Has anyone experienced pain after eating bananas. I thought they were safe since they are so soft.
Thanks, just trying to figure this out! I got lab work done which was fine in terms of liver function but I suppose it could have been my gallbladder.

I think a banana could cause a blockage. I got blocked for a few hours once from eating a banana mashed into a bowl of oatmeal. Stay extra well hydrated for the next few days and see how you feel.

I've never had any problems with bananas. I went through a phase last winter of having porridge with brown sugar and a chopped up banana for lunch. And I would sometimes eat 2-3 bananas a day; small ones, admittedly. All after my ileostomy surgery.

As far as a blockage is concerned, it's hard to tell whether you had one or not. My feeling is if if you felt no pain or pressure at the stoma, then I doubt you had a blockage there. I have had a few painful cramps at the stoma, but they usually quickly resolved within minutes - although one episode went on for longer and resembled a Crohn's partial obstruction.

And I can tell you about Crohn's obstructions, 'cos I had a stricture at the terminal ileum. The worst ones included having a feeling of constant pressure at the terminal ileum which wouldn't let up. The pressure as such wasn't painful, but it was a horrible feeling: it was always an immense relief when a bit of food/gas finally passed. On top of that, I had the wave-like cramps of death as well, of course.

Pain radiating to the back/pelvis also doesn't sound like obstruction pain, but I don't know enough to rule it out as a possibility.

Put simply: if you did have a blockage, then it sounds like it was one which was higher up in the intestines. But it could also be gallbladder or pancreatic pain, or possibly any one of a number of things, really.

But seriously, if it happens again I would seek medical advice.

Hi, hope your feeling better.

I have had several obstructions, and each one was different. One, the stoma was so painful I went to the ER without an appliance on. It was very inverted. Another one felt like a punch in the stomach, cramping through out, with nausea. Another painful cramping in waves in the bowel/pelvis area for hours on end. For most of my obstructions, the cramping feels like labor pains. For you, you still had output, so maybe it was a partial and the fiber is what plugged it. Hot tea, a bath, massaging the abdomen are techniques that help. It's not your gallbladder, I just had mine removed after 3 years of pain which finally lead up to gallstone pancreatitis. That pain is in your upper right quadrant/sternum.
