Hi, sorry for your pain.
I had chronic constipation since childhood. When 32, I was diagnosed with diverticulosis of the entire colon. Doctors never saw a colon like mine. They were stumped, thinking I was born this way with some sort of a tissue disorder. Anyhow, I did have all of my colon removed and had my ileum connected to my rectum. I developed a leakage after surgery, so now I have an ileostomy, which can be reversed. You can live without your colon and still be connected without having an ileostomy. You need to research for a good colorectal surgeon that is experienced, sympathetic, listens to your views of your quality of life and has many years under his belt. Get many opinions. You will also need to have certain tests performed...sitz marker study showing how slow your bowels are, a rectal/anal manometry evaluating your muscles, colonoscopy and whatever needs to be done. Then you have a clearer picture! If you have tried everything diet & medicine related and your at the end of your rope, hopefully a good surgeon will listen.
Good luck!!
