How often do you change your bag?

I have an ileostomy bag and was wondering how many days do you go between bag changes?

I think it all depends on what's going on. I've heard a lot of people say that 5-7 days is usually the goal. I was getting around four to five days and then I got a rash now it's every day or two but we can't seem to figure out the rash and how to get rid of it. I finally found something that works for the leaks I was having now to get it to stick to my rashy area!

I was getting up to 5-6 days on my wafer (I change my bag at the same time, although occasionally- though rarely- I change my pouch once in between wafer changes, e.g. If I get a bit of stool on the outside when I empty or something I will do so, but that is rare indeed) but I have backed off to doing changes every 4 days lately- seems to preempt the little bit of itchiness and greater risk of a leak that would occur when I stretched it to 5-6 days. My method is to examine my used eakin ring when I remove it to see how well that ring is fairing, and take note to see if I need to shorten my change interval. At 4 days the ring seems to be holding together rock solid. Another reason I don't like pushing it too far past that is the fact that I work out a lot and so I often take 2 showers a day, which puts a bit more wear and tear on the outer adhesive's lifespan, even though I blow dry it dry (takes me about a minute or two) after a shower.

halo is it ok if you get spay on stoma

liz do you use the new skin spray?I was thinking skin around my stoma little iratteded put stoma powder on then new skin spray then put on wafer with paste will that help skin heal ?

I guess I'm the oddball here! Now that I've got my system "perfected", I change my wafer about once a week, and could go longer if I wanted. I will change the bag once, sometimes twice, during that time though.

I can only get 2 days out of a bag by the 3rd day it starts to leak or come off

When I first had my surgery, I changed religiously every four days but I was off of work and could do that. Now that I am back to work full time, I usually change on Sunday and can now make it most of the week. I used to actually mark it out on the calendar, now I have to really think about when I change if it's not on Sunday! If I have to change through the week, I usually don't eat lunch and then do it when I get home. Mornings are too rushed getting kids and husband out the door.

I follow Polish Dans regime and have no skin issues, and no leaks.
