My takedown is March 7th. I am looking at purchasing a bidet. I was looking at the simple ones that just attach to the toilet. No fancy dryer or anything. I noticed those ones require you to have an electrical outlet by the toilet, which I don't have. Are the cheaper bidets sufficient? Or should I invest in a more expensive one?

I purchased my bidet off of Amazon and I love it! Mine is very simple, connects to the water line on the toilet and underneath the seat. No electricity needed. The water coming out is cold, but I don't mind it at all. It's just a simple spray off and pat dry with TP.

Hi Sara, good to see you again!

I don't use the dryer on my electric bidet, the main thing that I like to have is that the water is heated a little bit -- the water that comes out of the cheap attachment can be ice cold and a bit of a shock! I didn't have an electrical outlet near the toilet either so I ended up getting a 20 ft. extension cord and snaking it around the doorway/along the wall with tape to reach the bidet. It looks far less ugly than it sounds and I'm happy with it.

Many people get by after takedown with no bidet at all so I don't think you need to feel like you MUST get a certain thing, but I do think that having the bidet after takedown helped me stay more comfortable and avoid skin irritation.

I just got one of the inexpensive ones on Amazon (in fact, I got two of them) and they work perfect. I can't imagine having gotten through the first few months without them. No electricity needed, easy to install. And actually, I find the cold water to be rather soothing at times. I don't use it as much anymore, but seriously recommend it for right after takedown.

Thanks. I will look on Amazon. I will see how the cold water feels and go from there. My fiance said installing an outlet would be easy if he had to do it. The thought of pooping after over two years is weird...lol

I thought it would be weirder than it was, honestly... but I had a lot of mucus output from my j-pouch before it was hooked up so I was already having *something* come out a few times a day. Takedown wasn't a huge difference :)

Plastic squeezy bottle with warm water: close your eyes and you won't even notice the difference. >_>

I was wondering the same thing NiceCupofTea, remembering the peri-bottles from post partum. seems like that'd be about the same and you could possibly warm it to comfort level.

I use a squeeze bottle if I'm traveling away from home for more than a few days at a time. It works OK but the water doesn't really shoot out with enough force for a thorough clean, in my experience. I also like the ease with the bidet of not having to wait for the water tap to warm up, fill the bottle, etc. My philosophy is basically that I have enough to deal with as it is, I was willing to lay down some money and go to the hassle of doing the installation in order to have the best possible BM experience at home.

Admittedly if you have voluminous poop, particularly of a foul and sticky nature, a squeezy bottle may not be up to the task of hosing down your rear end to a gleaming finish. I started to use a squeezy bottle when I developed an anal fissure that made passing a teaspoon of liquid poo feel like there was a million tiny shards of embedded glass in that area. I was passing tiny amounts many times of day; it was my little taster of what being pranged with burning pitchforks for eternity must feel like. But that said, the poops were small enough to be easily rinsed off.

Most of the reviews are good on the Amazon. A squeezy bottle would work for travel or I'll probably carry wipes in my purse. I still have to get a barium enema test done the day before surgery even though my scope looked good. I hope Dr didn't miss anything!
