ladies! Is the bag in the way when you pee?

Sounds crazy, I know.... but the bags seem so long, & when I try to picture myself sitting on the toilet to pee, all I can see is the bag hanging in the way! Do you just flop it over to the side? Or do angle the bag a certain way to begin with? But then wouldn't you angle it towards your leg, make it lie flatter under clothes? And what about when you have your period, is it awkward inserting/removing a tampon? I'll be getting my RV fistula repaired, and my anus sewn up, so I doubt I'll even attempt a tampon for a loooong time. I still can't bring myself to believe that in 3 weeks, this will be my life.... Not sad but.... truly unbelievable!

Nope, never had that problem. Maybe I had short bags? Never really thought they were long. It never got in the way.

I've never thought twice about my bag when I pee, so I guess it's not an option. I do keep my bag slightly angled out the other direction though, away from my crotch, just because I find that more comfortable. I did not get sewn up "down there", so can't say how it feels to use a tampon after that part of the surgery.

The bag is not that long, and it rests on your thigh regardless of how you've angled it. You could possibly pee onto the very end of it if you were REALLY trying to -- as in, like, making every possible effort to pee onto your bag -- but it never once got in my way.

What's a bag? :) i always said bag before I had surgery but now it is always a pouch- bag to me is now like the N word IMO. Which means I guess it is ok to use by ostomates, but I always feel that when non ostomates use the word it is meant as an epithet, lol, eg the diaper wearing UC forum crowd who say they'd rather be dead than "have a bag". But I digress... As a male I have to take care not to ket the tip of my pouch hit my dumbstick, but now I can see that the dumbstick has vakue in aiming clear of the pouch when I pee, lol. I actually still stand up pee quite a bit, though obviously i do a two-fer when I empty (which is about 5x a day now not including the occasional burp in the middle of the night).

Hi Eva Lou - I know it's one of those things that you have to see to believe, but the bag doesn't get in the way with my pee at all. It just sits on my lap/upper thighs when I am sitting on the toilet peeing.

You can get different lengths of bags as well, and find what works best for you.

I haven't tried a tampon since having my butt sewn up (5 months ago) but even inserting a tampon when I had my jpouch was a bit of an issue. It wasn't the easiest to get in and it was not comfortable to keep it in, so I only used them when swimming and used a pad instead.

Not a crazy question at all! Just real life :)

I'm relieved! I suppose you think of all these crazy "What if's???....." that never come to pass. I keep 2nd guessing everything.... guess that's natural.

Haha, Eva! Nothing crazy about your questions at all! It IS totally normal to have a million questions and uncertainties and second guesses! Hopefully before long you will be feel A LOT better than you have in a while, will be adjusting well to your "new normal", and wondering what you were so worried about! :)

      Eva, the bag is slightly over to the side, not directly over your private area.  It isn't THAT long...maybe down to the crease in the leg.  Never a problem peeing.
