Actually I was partly wrong what I said about
diarrhoea. But it wasn't because I was crapping my pants, it was because in the year or so leading up to surgery, I developed a fissure which made passing even a teaspoon of liquid stool an agony. On top of that, I had intestinal spasms which resembled those of John Hurt and the chest-bursting scene in Alien. (Apparently the screenwriter for Alien had Crohn's; I can well believe it!)
I was also going every hour, albeit usually only passing tiny amounts of stool each time. Not to mention the high fevers, partial obstructions, toxic megacolon, anaemia, hospitalisations, etc.
Can't say I wish that on anyone either, m8. Sorry I wasn't incontinent; but not only was I not incontinent, extreme urges to go were few and far between for me. I dunno why I had so little urgency. (It was actually a more common symptom of my earlier years; but even then I could always hold out long enough to make it to a toilet in time.)
