So Wednesday I had my pouch check and that was very uncomfortable. Mostly I think it was nerves since I don't want anything near my butthole at this point and worried they might damage the pouch. Well all was good and my takedown is scheduled for first thing tomorrow (Friday) morning...man I'm excited. I hope everything goes great!

Good luck. I had a letter from the Hospital on Wednesday saying they're trying to schedule mine for late September.

Good luck Rabbit! The first few days can be pretty miserable but things really do improve quickly and then continue to do so each week!

Thank you for all of the well wishes!
@katmom - click on my name and look through my posts. I've posted fairly in depth documentation of my experience with each step this far. Hopefully it'll help you know what to expect.
@silentlucidity- good luck!
So the surgery went really well. I had a good amount of adhesions around the stoma site so they scraped all f that out so I'm fairly sore from that. I haven't had a BM yet or any gas (24 hours post op) but I did wake up hungry this morning so things are starting to wake up. The only issue I've had is the same thing that happens every surgery, problems peeing. Everytime I get cathetered I have trouble going, well they had to straight cath me last night and ever since then I'm going every hour and don't feel like I'm completely voiding. Anyway, this is fairly normal for me it'll start to calm down soon.
I really hope the BM's and everything go smoothly and I don't have any complications. Not really to much to post just yet. I'll keep you guys/gals updated.

Glad to hear all is well......make sure you walk around a lot.
I had trouble peeing after every surgery I've had. My bladder just never wants to wake back up.....always hate that part....and the catheter!
Happy pooping! :)

I'm peeing and pooping regularly now. The poop is very mucousy as I still haven't eaten any solid foods but I can control it fairly well. The peeing is becoming less of an issue. I did get up and walk around a lot today and got off the pain pump in hope to wake things up. But in paying for that as I'm in a lot of pain. The shots they give every 3 hours don't last long enough.
All in all though that's my biggest issue so far. Thanks again for the well wishes.

So I got released today. I feel good. As long as I keep moving my abdomen doesn't tighten up as much and this hurts a lot less. I am already experiencing butt burn and have started putting the zinc oxide ointment on my anus after I have BM's, hopefully that stuff works magic. I also went ahead and ordered a bidet for my toilet, I'm excited to give it a try. My only main concern I have left is the wound where the old stoma was. Infection is an obvious concern. I was wondering how long it took for others to close up?
Overall I'm very happy I went forward with the jpouch. I realize it might not be for everyone but for me I don't seem to have any issues (knock on wood) and I feel really comfortable holding stool and passing it with the jpouch already. If anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask.
Thanks again everyone!

My wound actually closed in about
four and a half to five weeks. However it healed somewhat in as like a roll in my belly? I don't know how to describe it really. Basically it closed still somewhat below normal skin level, but it was fully filled in when it closed and in the weeks since has still been filling out even though it's been closed for a while now. I really hope I'm making sense.
I do still have that weird discoloration from the wafer ring around it. It's definitely faded and the circle has shrunk, but it looks like it's going to take another good month or so for that to fully go away.
Anyway glad you're home and things have been going well!

@arpr - how's your pouch doing? How man movements do you have during the day/night? Find anything really disturbs it? Any foods you haven't tried yet? Are you able to tell the difference between gas and stool? If so can you separate them? Have you tried a bidet? But burn?
Sorry for the slew of questions but seeing as how you're a little over a month out I'm looking to se what kind of "milestones" I can look forward to or whatever. Plus we are similar in age. Thanks!

darn signature never pops up in posts when I sign in by hitting the "reply" button.
Anyways, I had one more thing to add. So last night was my first full night with an awake pouch, I didn't have any immodium or benefiber and hadn't eaten solids yet and was up several times because of gas a liquidity output. Tonight however after eating dinner (rather early and small amount of pasta) and having immodium, benefiber and my pain meds I've made it through the night without a single BM. I went to bed around 930pm and it's almost 3am and I'm sitting on the toilet just to "try" and go. Maybe I haven't fully realized what it feels like. But I'm feeling pretty lucky considering my end ileo was very inactive at night as well...loop ileo, well that's another story.
Anyone else in a similar situation?? Also, anyone else use a bidet? I figure it might save money on baby wipes and TP. Thanks!

Good to hear you're home already! Consider yourself lucky if you continue to sleep through the night. I get up once a night to go and it been four years. I usually have to pee anyway so it's no big deal. Hope that keeps up for you. I never got a bidet. The butt burn I get usually pretty mild and I just use Calmoseptine. Takes care of it instantly. Your pouch may get more active as you increase your diet but things will adjust over time.
WAs your stoma site left
open to heal? Mine was loosely sutured closed and healed beautifully in three weeks. Good to hear you're doing so well

My site was initially closed and sutured with a packing. The packing is now removed and it's partially
opened. I just change the gauze pad everyday and I cover it in the shower. I know that area has a really high risk of infection so I'm very concerned about
that. Hoping it closes with no issues and fast! 3 weeks would be nice.
