How do you get 5 days or a week out of a wafer? After a day or two mine falls right off. I often find my skin is dry flaky and red. Anyone else with these issues? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I just changed today, after a week of use. I could have gone longer, but I think a week is long enough. Sometimes I change after 5 days.

What is your routine? Do you use a barrier wipe? I would think that changing after a day or two would be too hard on your skin. Do you have a stoma nurse that you can call?

I don't do anything special, and can often go a week or longer with one wafer if I want to. I do use a barrier ring around my stoma, and will use a Sure Seal if I know my wafer will be getting extra wet for some reason. It may be that you aren't using the best type and/or brand for your skin. It does take some trial and error to find what works best for you.

I had similar issues a few month ago... I had been using a barrier spray and the occasional stoma powder (changing the bag so often really makes my skin angry and irritated). My stoma nurse recommended not using the barrier spray or powder..apparently Coloplast bags can be finicky to those things, who knew? Using only an eakin seal my wear time is atleast 5 days now.

On a side note: I am also from Nova Scotia! If changing up your skin prep routine doesn't work definitely try and visit a stoma nurse..I have a list of names/contact info for all the nurses in the province if you need it!

I go 5-6 days between wafer changes. I use an Eakin Seal, some powder, & Hollister wafers & bags. I did use a barrier spray initially, but stopped when I switched to the extended wear Hollister wafers. My skin does get a bit itchy by day 5 or so, but the adhesive power is still all there. Your wafers are literally falling off?? what brand are you using? My WOCN told me changing any early than 4-5 days will result in more irritated/aggravated skin. Despite the itchiness I get from time to time, the skin around the stoma is fine- not broken down, no sores, etc.

I can go 5 days. I did just do 7 though cuz I was feeling lazy this week.

And the wafer is still super stuck to my skin. Im only 3.5 months out so my stoma shrank a little again and I had some major leakage under the wafer right around my stoma :(

Everything else still very sticky! Even with my slight yeast problem underneath.
I use ConvaTec.

I'm using coloplast products with seals. Can't seem to clear up this redness. Thanks for the input though.

Search Friars Balsam Tincture on the forum and you will find all kinds of information. It is a first aid product that helps clear up the skin and helps the wafer to stick better. It's all I use.

If you're using the Coloplast "regular" wear wafers, then you wont' get much out of them (they peel on me after less than a day!). Try their XPRO or Assura extended wear.

Hollister New Image wafers stick really well on my skin and Convatec is good too (both have tape border options). But the Coloplast xpro and Assura extended wear are good too.

Also, just because some people can get 5-7 days, doesn't mean that's the "goal". Go for as long as your skin can stay happy. In countries where the supplies are paid for, people will change their appliance every day or two and the rarely need to use extra supplies or accessories.
