My hair has been falling out very badly since I got sick before my first surgery. At this point I have lost probably 50-70% of my hair. Its so thin and has only made this whole process that much worse for me. Has this happened to anyone? How long did it last? Did anything work to make it better (products, vitamins, etc)?

My hair occasionally fell out during my worst of flares, and then about three months after my first surgery it got really bad (as in it would clog the drain and the water would be up to my ankles during a shower in the ~ 2 minutes it took me to rinse out the shampoo). After doing some research I learned it can be a normal side effect of anesthesia or even the result of any major trauma. The hair will enter into a dormant phase and stop growing and it can take about three months for the new hair underneath to start growing out and pushing out the old/dead one so it can be quite alarming when it all starts happening.

I don't have much advice on products to help with it, as at the time I'd been so fed up with reading about vitamins, etc to help with UC I just decided to wait it out, although I know that there are products out there that claim to offer some benefits.

My hair is not too good to begin with but it was really terrible before ai had the first surgery. I attributed this to all of the medication asacol hd, humira, and prednisone as well as being seveely malnourished. Now that I am through the 2nd surgery, off the medicine, and eating better my hair is alot better. I can't wait to see my beautician because I think she is going to see a big difference. I do help it a little bit with biotin supplements ( gummy strawberry flavored) everyday and I triedd that keronique which is advertised on tv and available online.
