Hello!
Since early childhood (maybe from birth?) I was always constipated. And when I say constipated I mean moving bowels ONCE a week or less! Everybody thought I was constipated - doctor, parrents, so mother tried anything possible - plums, warm water, pears, you name it - it did not help. Only enema would relieve me.
Through the years I learned to strain and push the bowel content by force - that was the only option to empty the rectum, and I thought that's how it is supposed to be and that's how all people do it. You know defecation is a taboo in our society, you do not see it on TV, you do not learn about
it at school, people wont talk about
it... So I had no idea... until, 40 years later I was married and was toilet training my son.
This is when I had the chance for the first time in my life to observe normal human defecation. And I noticed that he does not strain at all, in fact the only thing he does after he squat (we have a squat toilet at home) is relaxing the anus -- the rest is carried out by an a reflex that automatically empties the rectum and the sigmuid colon, just like it is with urination (you do not strain to urinate, right?).
This was intriguing and I started researching on the internet. Soon I realized that I had it all wrong and probably had anismus all my life, without knowing it!!!
I am not really sure, that is why I am asking here: when I start to defecate, the moment the stool touches the sensitive part of the anus it shuts closed, like an involuntary spasm and stops the process. Also, normally my anus is tight, like when you hold urine. Is it what they call anismus?
P.S.Sorry for the mistakes, English is not my first language.
