Stoma reversal

Hi there,
I'm a 37 yr old Irish guy who had subtotal colectomy followed by proctocolectomy and stoma reversal for ulcerative colitis a couple of years ago. While my health has generally been very good since (I hold down a relatively physical job in a factory) , I am very interested in making contact with other people who have had these surgeries, at around the same time in life. It would be great to compare notes about everyday life and activities following these surgeries. Is anyone else prone, for instance to those sudden feelings of dehydration and tiredness. I always wonder if I could be doing more. Please drop me a line, if you would like to chat

Hi Patrick,

I have a temp ileostomy as of 3 months ago, have got about 3 months left before it gets reversed. But Yeah, I do have sudden feelings of dehydration and tiredness, which is frustrating because I really want to resume exercise but not quite ready to yet. In fact, Saturday morning I was getting out of the shower and all of a sudden I felt really dizzy/lightheaded and my heart started pounding. It wouldn't go away, so I called 911 (that's our US emergency number) and the paramedics came and tested my EKG, blood pressure etc. and I was OK -- but I let on that I'd drunk too much coffee and knew that I hadn't drunk enough water overnight/that morning so I wasn't surprised that I had a reaction like that. But it was scary! I'm tired all the time, probably because I haven't had a solid night's sleep since the surgery! Have to get up and empty the bag all the time!
