Extended wear barriers

Since I have to change my wafers every 2 or 2 1/2 days, is there actually any benefit to my using the extended wear barriers? My output is pretty liquidy, which is why I have always used extended wear products, with adapt barrier rings. But if I can use the standard barriers, that would save me money.

Gmark, I have tried the extended wear barriers as well and really found no difference in the length of wear time. I change mine every 5-7 days and it's the same with the regular Sensura wafers as it is with their extended wear. The last time I used an extended wear, I eneded up with a rash under the wafer so have gone back to the regular barriers now.

The extended wear wafers are terribly expensive but depending on where you are, you can find soe cheaper online. I have started ordering all of my supplies from canmeddirect in Canada. Much better prices and amazing customer service.

Hi, gmark, my experience is the same as Lara's mom's. I've given them two trials, and seen no difference at all in wear time. Granted, my output is not liquid at all, so my experience may not be relevant. One of the nurses I had when still getting homecare said that in her experience, the extended wear wafers were a waste of money. And if you skin in sensitive, you have to avoid using a barrier wipe (e.g. Cavilon), as they tend to weaken the adhesive of the wafer.

Hey, Mark you say you have pretty liquidy stools, if your diet is in place as in you are eating enough bulking foods you could always try either immodium or loperamide to hopefully slow down and thinken up your output leading to longer bag changes in theory.

You can actually take these medications everyday and many do, if you don't have a colon, though I'd obviously consult with your doctor first. =)
