Having trouble with leaks. Is a one-piece system more susceptible and why?

I have a relatively new ostomy and all of the sudden I'm having problems with leaks. I mostly have used a convetec one-piece they gave me at the hospital and now I have a hollister one piece. It keeps leaking and its driving me crazy, and I even switched back to the one remaining convetec and it leaked too!

I have used a two piece a couple times and it hasn't leaked yet.

Any suggestions? My stoma is almost perfectly round except for a small 2-3mm portion juts out just a bit towards the bottom and it sticks out just a little more than an inch.

Do I need to use a barrier ring or something? I'm not even sure how to use them.

This is driving me nuts. I'm going through bags like crazy and my skin is getting raw and sore.

definitely try a barrier ring! They saved me... get some samples of Eakins ASAP, or any brand, really. I tear the ring apart, then wrap it around the base of the stoma, & overlap the edges, smushing them together like Play-doh. Then put the wafer over the whole thing, & press down a bit. I also blast the whole thing with a hair dryer for a minute or so to "set" it. I just use powder, Eakin seal, wafer & bag And the rings will help heal any broken skin you have, don't need to worry about small wounds or anything. Good luck, you will figure it out! In the beginning, I do think a 2 piece may be easier, simply because it's easier to position the wafer when you can really see around the whole stoma.

I blow dry everything after it's all on- use my powder, stick on the ring, put on the wafer & bag- then blast the whole set up with the hair dryer. To sort of help everything stick together. Seems to work, I rarely have leaks.
