Bct right after surgery?

I'm curious whether anyone used compound benzoin tincture right after surgery or has any thoughts. I just did my first solo pouch change on my new stoma (looks good!) but skipped the cbt. Just seemed like a bad idea to put sticky stuff close to stitches. Thoughts?

Hey Blue!

Haven't been on much so need to catch up on what the heck happened to you!

I didn't use my BCT until the stitches were out, I think it was a month out. I couldn't wait to get back to using it!

I must go and catch up on your posts.

Hi Kelly. Good to hear from you. Been a scary week but I'm ok now. How are you doing? I got busy w work and didn't keep up w anyone very well.

Doing ok Blue, although I have a very slow, stubborn healing butt wound! But compared to the alternative, it's all good!
Had a lovely two weeks in Cuba and still came home to winter. Most of the snow is gone now thank goodness.

No issues with my ostomy while we were away. I even wore a bikini every day!

Now if we could get the last of this butt wound to close, life would be grand. Nurse is going silver nitrate every week and on the in between days hubby is packing it with Prisma. So fingers crossed it closes some day!

Stay well, rest up and keep in touch. Hope you are getting some much needed rest at home.

Glad a lot is going well, kelly. Vacation sounds great.

For me what finally closed the butt wound was endoform. It was astounding. Closed more in one night than I had in months before. It's a new product -- I was the first one my nurse had used it on for a butt wound.

There's a way that chronic wounds can get out of balance -- too many mmp's, which are the proteins that break down bad tissue, so they keep breaking down the new collagen that's trying to grow. The endoform is like parchment paper from sheep gut and it kind of gives the mmp's more to eat.

My nurse said they're working on a test to see if mmp's are the problem. If not it the endoform probably won't help but if so its amazing. It's cheap and simple. Just thought I'd mention as I really tried a lot of things and this one saved me another surgery.

They really can close though!

Blue, I did some digging and inquiring today about the Endoform.

NOT YET AVAILABLE IN CANADA.  Sigh......how frustrating is that.

How did they use it?  Is it like Prisma where they put it in the wound and it dissolves on it's own?

I see I can get it on Amazon (its' a little expensive but if it works, I will use it) but will check with my family doctor Wednesday and see if she would recommend ordering it.

Why is nothing easy.......

That's a drag. I'm not familiar with prisma but yes I cut a small piece and put it right in the wound. I think it was twice a week at first. At the beginning we put some alginate dressing behind it, but after a while seemed like that dressing was holding the wound open so we stopped it. My nurse was experimenting too.

My wound was really small and when I was using the most of it was only about 1 sq cm and then I used even less. So if you buy some you might not need very much.

Same routine as the Prisma. It's $253 for 10 2"x2" pieces on Amazon. Guess I could consider it an investment if it works......we use about an inch by 1/8 strip to do my wound right now so it would last a long time.

Will speak to my Dr on Wednesday and see what she says.

drugsdepot.com has endoform one 2x2 at a time for $17. Search endoform.
