I have once again had diminished output for the past 24 hours. I noticed the stoma looked fat, so I took the wafer off. It is usually 25mm around. We had to cut the hole to 30mm. My stomach is distended and painful. I am having some noisy, watery output, but nothing like I usually do. I don't know what to do.
I'm going to work now and I have no idea why. I am drinking pickle juice because that usually causes me a ton of watery output.
I'm so sick of this.
Any ideas?

Sigh.... so sorry.
My stoma was hugely swollen before I went to the ER a few weeks ago, had to cut the wafer as big as it goes... it can be a hernia symptom. I was very distended too, although I had no output. I think you need to keep an eye on it. If your stoma gets purplish, then you definitely need to go to the ER, as it's not getting enough blood (that's why I needed the surgery) ... also if you're vomiting a lot.
Seems a good sign that you have output.... maybe try heat, moving around, massaging the area etc.... but much as you don't want to.... this could be a go back to the hospital thing.... hope not. Hang in.

It sounds like a blockage, if the stoma is swollen... is your output watery, thin, etc? The one time I had a blockage, there was not much pain, just some cramping sensations & swollen stoma. It eventually passed on it's own. I'm sorry, you've been having problems lately, right? Hope something can be done to really help!!

I was advised to drink warm beverages if I ever felt like I had a blockage. Specifically warm grape juice if you can get that. All of the tips that blueglass gave are things I have heard before also. I hope this clears for you quickly!!

On my way to the hospital as output has only been the pickle juice and stomach is hard and stoma is so swollen that he was purplish when I took the wafer off.
I am not a happy girl right now.

Well, never mind. The doctor called and said for me to lay down and see if the swelling will go down some. He said if it gets worse, then go to hospital. I feel like I'm on a roller coaster ride and not having any fun. Geez
I have had some output

I drank coco cola as I read it can help with blockages. Stoma went down some, but swelled right back up up when I got up this morning for work. I had some output, which definitely helped, but my stomach still hurts really bad. It is sore, even to a soft touch.
I am going to the doctor this afternoon and will keep y'all posted. Something is definitely wrong and I'm worried.

OK, the doctor thinks what is going on is that the hernia is causing my issues. On the ct scan, it shows the omentum being pulled in the hernia sac. They think the intestines is also being pulled in the sac and being strangled periodically and somehow managing to free itself.
He is going to do exploratory surgery and then will decide exactly how to proceed. Not sure when I will get this because we only have 19 more days of school and I would like to finish the school year if at all possible. Ugh
I was instructed to go to the ER if the pain increases, fever, stoma changes colors and it won't turn back red when I lay down, etc. The normal things that we would go to the ER for.
I'm so upset with these stupid ass parastomal hernias. Can they be ever truly be fixed???

Good that you have an explanation and a plan -- but what a drag. Are they talking about
moving your stoma somewhere else? That's how they fixed mine ( well truly hoping it's fixed).
What is it that they can't see until the surgery? Is it the adhesions?
My surgery in dec was exploratory -- but the hernia was too small to see when it wasn't an emergency. Sounds like yours is different.
Can they do the surgery lapro so you won't get more adhesions?
Hope the timing works out for you. And that the symptoms ease up.

They saw the hernia on the ct scan, so we know it's there. I'm not sure if he will move the stoma. With this being my 4th hernia on the right side, I think moving it to the left would be a good plan. Unfortunately, I have heard that moving the stoma isn't always a sure thing either and many on this board and the uoaa board have said getting the hernias fixed is useless and I will get another one. :(
Right now, I have no choice and you definitely had no choice with yours because your stoma had no blood supply.
I wish you could call me. Do you live in the States? I would like to hear about
the time leading up to your emergency surgery. I'm scared. My stoma is still very swollen.

My gi says that my risk of getting a hernia on the left is not higher because I had one on the right. He was strongly urging to not live in fear. He's the doc I trust the most -- really smart guy and like an encyclopedia knowing all the risks and research. Do keep in mind that the people w lots of problems (like us) are over represented on the boards.
If you give me an email address we can set up a time to talk. I'm in Boston. Falling down exhausted tonight but over the weekend sometime would work.
Hang in.

Blueglass, I looked for a way to send you a private message and didn't see a way. Hmmm. Then I looked to see if I had an email address on file. I have no clue. You do not, so I can't email you. Let me know if you see a way where we can send an email or private message and we can exchange phone numbers.
I have had decent output, but stoma is still swollen. I guess he will stay swollen until I get this hernia fixed. Thank God I have some cut to fit wafers. Otherwise, I would be screwed.
