Hi guys!
So last night I had a blockage. I stopped having output at around 6:30pm, and from then I could feel my stoma moving an awful lot, to the point where it was very painful - it was like he was trying really hard to squeeze something out. As the next couple of hours went on, I got pain & cramps that gradually got worse & worse, and around my stoma was very sore, and my stomach was distended. I was doing all the "tricks" that are suppose to help relieve blockages - drinking hot tea, hot water bottle, massaging, hot shower, pacing my hallway, pulling knees up to chest. In the end I lay down in bed as it was so late, and around 2-2:30am, it seemed to just resolve itself, I had tons of watery output with bits in it. I emptied again at 7am, same type of output.
When I went to have a shower this morning, I decided to change my bag as my stoma still felt tender and strange, and it was very swollen still (I think it was swollen all evening too). I usually have my bags cut to 35mm & I had to cut this one to 45mm, and it's sticking away from my stomach much more. The colour is ok, it's not a red as it usually is, a paler pink colour. And it's a bit sore to touch.
Is it normal for your stoma to still be swollen even after the blockage is cleared? I assume it has cleared, since changing the bag I've only had a tiny amount of output, but I hadn't eaten since 5:30pm yesterday so it's not that strange.
I contacted the ward where I had my surgery & spoke to the colorectal nurse, who took all info of what happened. She doesn't seem too worried because I did have output, but isn't sure herself of the significance of it being still so big, so she is going to ask my surgeon, and get a stoma care nurse to contact me to maybe come out & see it.
So I'm just waiting around at the moment to hear back from them, so just wondered if people have experience with this? Thanks! :)
