Surgery again

I'm having surgery Friday for the parastomal hernia and the adhesions and whatever the doctor finds. I have continued to suffer with partial blockages, swollen stoma, purple stoma off and on, severe stomach pain, cramping, nausea, etc.

I can be feeling fine and then bam, my intestines will start twisting and wrenching. It has been hell.

I have continued to work by the grace of God. Luckily only 3 days left and schools out.

I am terrified, but also relieved.

I pray this ends my misery.

It sounds like it is time, to take car of the situation, before it becomes and emergency. You are doing the right thing! I'll be thinking of you on Friday...(((HUGS)))

Been thinking about you, and I'm glad you're going in to get things fixed. I know how awful it is when you can't trust your bowels to keep working.... the obstructions are like, bam! now you're in obstruction-land, drop the rest of your life and just be miserable....

Hope the surgery gives you lots of relief.

Are they going to move your stoma? If that's a possibility, I suggest talking to your nurse, getting marked, and being sure to tell the surgeon what you want. I am starting to have some problems with my new stoma... they are fixable, not a big deal, but it's really too short, and I'm regretting that I didn't ask the surgeon to make it longer (I got a new surgeon who I met right before she put me under). I know in the crisis it's very hard to think about long term quality of life, but hopefully the surgery will take away the obstruction threat and let you again worry about things like leaks and what works best w/your clothes...

SL -- I don't think you just have surgery "for adhesions," since as you said, surgery just makes more. You have surgery for something else or because adhesions are causing a problem like obstructions.

It's very tricky when adhesions are causing a problem -- my surgeon said sometimes they open up a person and there are hardly any adhesions, but one might be wrapped around the bowel and causing an obstruction. With other people they can cut for hours and not be sure they've got at what's causing the problem....

Hoping that in surgery today the problem will be clear and get fixed....
