I had my surgery on Friday, may 22 to repair the parastomal hernia.. Everything went well and I was sent home on Tuesday, may 26.

The minute I left the hospital, my output stopped and my belly started to grow. I called an ambulance to take me back to the hospital on Wednesday, may 27.

They did xrays and ct scan and they showed a blockage. They are thinking ileus and swelling that has swelled the stoma closed.

Ct scan also showed I might have ripped the stitches that repaired the hernia. I also had my first allergic reaction to the ct IV contrast dye when my arm broke out in red welts.

I have been miserable with pain and throwing up..

Please pray for me. I am. Feeling sicker than I have ever felt in my life.

I might have to have another surgery go have the stoma moved to the other side. The doctor is waiting and will see what happens..

So sorry, that's horrible! Good thing you called an ambulance. Hang in.... I know how awful blockages, ileuses, and hernias are....

If you do have surgery, make sure they have a nurse come and mark a new stoma site for you, and also think about any instructions for the surgeon in making your stoma.... I know that's probably the last thing on your mind when you're in such misery, but that's why I'm reminding you.... it will get better, and then you'll care where your stoma is and how it works.....

I'm still in the hospital. I'm having output, yet my stomach stays distended because the stoma has not released any gas. This causes extreme pain and therefore I'm still on IV pain meds, no foods, only clear liquids, and even drinking the liquids can make me nauseas.

I will be getting another ct scan today at some point, where they place the gastrograffin solution inside the stoma. The doctor thought this could be swelling initially, but the ct scan was not clear, and showed I possibly might have busted through the stitches and a piece of small bowel is trapped in yet, another hernia.

I hope and pray this is just swelling, but with no gas passing makes me suspicious.

Ct scans are not 100% either since the scan before this surgery said I had some omentum pulled inside the hernia sac, when it was in fact my small intestine and caused me months of grief and blockage after blockage. Luckily, the intestine would flip and the blockage would clear.

Hoping I get well and out of here soon. Thanks for asking about me. I'm in Piedmont.

OK....glad to hear from you. I remember we talked on the phone a few times years ago...don't remember whether it was before or after my operation. I am still having issues too...my surgeon left the anus and now the UC is inside the anus rolleyes It is also in my vagina!!!! Go figure that one out. My surgeon retired in 2013 and I am seeing one here in south Jersey....he's ok..but I just looked him up online and see that he is a general surgeon. He and his associates are colorectal surgeons. Maybe they have to be general surgeons first..who knows? I also have a rectovaginal fistula. Hoping I don't need another operation...but if so, I decided to take Carens suggestion I see Dr. Phillips from Jefferson Hospital in Philly. He does operate in Camden at Cooper...so we wouldn't have to go over the bridge.

I feel sooo bad for you. You have been through hell. I will keep you in my prayers girl.

ng tube in? that will help.

i had ileus post surgery…not fun. ng tube sucked, but literally sucked and i was much more comfortable.

Finally home. The ct scan shows severe swelling which looks like a partial bowel twist. Atleast that's the concenus at this time.

Liquids go through and I finally started passing gas after the gastrograffin solution was injected into the stoma.

I am now on a full liquid diet and I see the doctor again Monday.

I feel like hell, stomach is still distended, but hey, as some would say, well at least it's not cancer.

That's looking on the bright side! I am hoping I don't have cancer...surgeon I saw a few weeks ago suggested more biopsies....geeez.
