Is calmospetine really the best thing for butt burn?

It is the best, although some people don't like it because of the menthol. The least expensive way to get it is to have an American buy and mail it to you; and in return you can send them something we can't get. I have done this several times for jpouch friends in the UK. It's hard to say how long a tube will last as you may or may not need to use it frequently.

I am one who *hates* it because of the menthol. Most people think menthol feels like a cooling sensation, to me it felt like burning.

I used A&D ointment (diaper rash treatment with petrolatum and lanolin, if you want to look for the UK equivalent) and that worked fine for me. If I were you I wouldn't lay out the money for Calmoseptine unless you find treatments available in the UK aren't sufficient.

The really really heavy duty barrier cream that is a step up from Calmoseptine is Ilex.

yes, it is the best. My surgeon recommended it after my operation....I was having some "issues" which my new surgeon didn't give me any answers to and I went back to the Calmoseptine and everything is cleared up. It also helped my grandson's irritated tush....great stuff.

I wouldn't pay exorbitant prices for it, seems like any zinc based ointment does the trick. Although, I'm not talking from personal butt-burn experience, just overall skin irritation relief. I lucked out, I work in a health care facility, & some medical journal was mailed to our office with 3 sample packets stuck onto the front. I grabbed those off ASAP! I'd personally stock up on any zinc ointment, & if need be- shell out the $$$ for calmoseptine. It may not be an issue for you at all, you know? I just can't get over how thick & sticky it is... nothing is penetrating thru that stuff!
