Calmoseptine on raw peristomal skin?

Hi all,

I've got some raw skin right around my stoma from constant pure liquid output. I've got some Calmoseptine, and I know some people use it around the stoma. Do you use it directly on raw skin? I've read that it can burn. Also, does it affect the wafer seal? It seems like it wouldn't stick as well to a cream. I'm using Coloplast convex wafers with the barrier strip thing. They've been incredible at preventing leaks. I've been using stoma powder and skin barrier spray on the broken skin, but it's not working very well.

Hopefully will be done with the ileostomy on Wednesday, if I can pass the pouchogram Monday! But in the meantime, I would like to get this skin in better shape.

That stuff burned my daughter like crazy- same on her poor buns after step 3. Work on making the ring as close to the skin as you can, and using those strips and a convex wafer is about all you can do. My girl did the same - powder, spray to get the adhesive off gently and waiting as long as possible between changes to give the skin a chance to heal. You are almost there! Hang tough.

Thanks, everyone. I will take both Calmoseptine and some A&D to the hospital. I had my pouchogram today and the radiologist says it looks good. Takedown surgery Wednesday! I hope it all works--I've had a partial obstruction due to adhesions and haven't been able to eat solids for the last month. I've been surviving on Ensure, chicken broth and other juices, and tiny nibbles of no-fiber food. I'm looking forward to eating and pooping again!
