I started using Adapt paste on my bags because of irritation around stoma. Well...the irritation is worse! I now have what looks like a fairly deep crater just above the stoma and it is bleeding....not badly, but enough. I changed my bag this morning (Coloplast Sensura..been using them almost five years), minus the paste...just the stoma powder..but, I did put some bacitracin on a tiny bandaid to cover the affected area. Any suggestions as to what I can do? Otherwise, it does not hurt, or burn...just looks bad..lol.

Could it be yeast? Try some yeast powder. You can also ask your doctor to prescribe diflucan if it is yeast. I usually have itching with yeast though. And it looks like bumps.

You might need to see the ostomy nurse to have her identify exactly what this rash is.

When I have yeast, it gets out of control quickly.

no, it isn't yeast...I had yeast not long after my operation and it cleared up with that diflucan. This just looks like when you rip a scab off too soon on a sore...seeps a bit and deep enough to bleed some. Never had anything like this before. I don't have a wound nurse anymore. I could ask my family doctor...maybe she would know.

I think that you should get that skin looked at by a professional. That skin is really important and it takes a beating.

When I had my loop ileo I had a similar issue where my skin started blistering, the stoma nurse treated it with silver nitrate and then had me use the Coloplast barrier sheets with my setup and I never had that problem again.
