My stoma has two active openings??

about a month ago, I noticed Kratos (stoma) had developed a 'buddy': essentially, a smaller version of himself, on the right side. I'd never noticed it was active until tonight while I was dealing with a leak and it spat at me. I know some stomas have a mucous hole along with the main, but I've never known them to be two-headed like this. I think I might have to call my doctor tomorrow and be like what the hell.

Does anyone else have a two-headed stoma?

I sooooo know what you mean. My first sto a was a loop and I had what my Dr and Surgeon described as a fistula or tunnel where my stoma met my skin. I had output that would come out of there and sometimes larger pieces of whatever I ate. It drove me nuts, more so than the problems with the loop.

It was the first thing I insisted be corrected when I had my surgery last September to make my stoma permanent. If you have Crohn's, it is possible that that's what's happened. GI says it's not normal but it's not life threatening. If your ostomy is permanent you may want to consider getting it repaired. It became very difficult to keep a wafer on as that "hole" leaked upwards and when I had a leak, it was the culprit!

It looks just like a tiny stoma, puckered opening and everything. I wasn't able to call today -- been dealing with a stray cat all day -- but I'll probably phone Monday. My stoma is only about two months old, so I'm thinking the second opening might close eventually?

what happened to you? i have two 'new' fistulas...

did you heal? did they get bigger? i'm curious
