Post-op appointment question

I have my first post-op appointment with my surgeon this week. I will be changing my pouch this weekend and wondered should I put on one of the clear samples I have? Will the Dr want me in clear so he can see my stoma? They won't make me take my pouch off there will they?

I put a clear one on for my post op appointment. I think that's a good idea. My surgeon never made me take the bag off. That could be rather messy!

I think I was stuck wearing clear until after my first post-op appointment because I had a home care nurse who insisted on it. I hated it, I wanted to wear opaque so badly. He didn't even look at my stoma, I could have worn opaque. he was just checking the incisions. The day my home health nurse left, I changed into an opaque and I never wore a clear again.

It's been over five years since my operation, but, I don't think my surgeon looked at my stoma. He just asked if I were having any problems with it. My problem was a hematoma which developed inside the anus. He suctioned that baby out and placed me on antibiotics for a few weeks. I had to return at the end of those two weeks so he could check on things.

I always wear the clear pouches because I like to watch the poo come out....I know..I am weird.

My surgeon always had me take off my bag so he could check out my stoma and surrounding area. I always brought in a change with me and put a new bag on after. Once or twice he asked if the resident could watch me put it on so they could learn.

Christine, you should try a Mio. They're not clear, but they have a peek-a-boo window so you can watch your stoma do its thing!

Thanks everyone!! I think I will put on a clear one just to be safe. I don't mind the clear and somedays makes me feel better when I can see what's going on in there.

I really hope he doesn't make me change it!!! Changing the bag is still the one thing I don't handle that well and don't want to have to worry about doing it away from home yet!!
