J-pouchers, what do you use for prep?

I'm having a flex sig on Tuesday morning. I've been instructed to use a Fleet Phospate enema, but my experiences with laxative enemas have been horrendous. Been thinking of not eating after lunchtime tomorrow and taking the maximum dose of Miralax instead. (I don't think I can buy MoviPrep from a chemist.)

That should work, shouldn't it? Guys?

Just two fleet enemas about an hour apart three hours prior to apt. time. That's as per my dr.

I've had 2 scopes, the first one was with MoM and it was horrible, I puked from it and was not totally clean. For the 2nd scope I used a full bottle of Milax and it was easy and the GI said my pouch was happy with the prep.

If anyone is interested, this is what happened the last time I took a Fleet enema.

I had my first - and as far as I'm concerned, last - Fleet enema today in prep for a flexible sigmoidoscopy. The instructions told me optimistically to try to hold the liquid in for 10-15 minutes. Yeah, right. Try 10-15 seconds, more like. I made a beeline for the toilet; it was pretty much like having a Crohn's flare-up all over again, what with the intestinal spasms of death. I then had a look at the Fleet bottle. My heart sank when I saw nearly a full bottle! ¬_¬

The pathetic amount of liquid I had managed to insert was passed out almost immediately. I was going to try again, but my rectum was burning and I was still having death cramps. Passed some mucus and then blood. The whole grisly business took about 20 minutes in total.

I didn't even have a connected rectum at that point!

So yeah, no more Fleet enemas for me. I had a horrendous time with them the night before my first surgery as well.

Susan - That was enough? Seems like it's taking a bit of a chance.

ks1905 - I presume MoM is Milk of Magnesia, but is Milax the same thing as Miralax?

Yes Milk of Magnesia. They are different, MofM is based on Magnesium and Miralax is glycol based which is what most of the prescription based preps are made from. /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_glycol#Medical_uses

I will never take MofM again; now the smell makes me sick.

I've never prepped for a scope of my pouch, aside from emptying right beforehand or trying to go in the morning when I haven't eaten yet. As far as Fleets go, I recommend emptying out the liquid that comes in the bottle and using warm tap water instead. The saline solution is partly why it's so horrible.
