Total colectomy in July.
Jpouch surgery in novemver.
The past few days I've been experiencing an excess amount of anal discharge or leakage.
I've felt the urge to "go" quite often and have even woken up in the middle of the night, soaked.
Can anyone explain this? Is this normal?
Normally I'd have a small amount of discharge every day, but lately it's been a lot. Almost feels as if I'm having a bowel movement..

Do you have a loop ileo or are you connected? I had a three step - after colectomy, I had j-pouch creation and a loop, then step 3 was reconnect. When I was post step 2, waiting for step 3, I had some mucus but not any urgency that I remember. I was reconnected in November.I've heard some leaking can be normal after reconnection. I never had any issues in the night or during the day, but I few times I misjudged gas... Have you been doing kegels? They can help strengthen.

This could be inflammation of the pouch (potentially due to diversion). Another possibility is that you're having an increased amount of output bypassing into the distal end of your loop ileo (not sure why this happens but does happen occasionally, especially in recessed stomas). Either way, a major change in bowel habits/continence that isn't transient is definitely worth placing a call to your surgeon.

Like usual I am going to agree with Pluot on this one, I think you have inflammation of the pouch due to your last thread and the pain that you are having in your hip & tailbone. This could all go away once you are reconnected.

When are you scheduled to be reconnected?

To answer your questions, I'm in the process of the three step procedure and currently have a loop ileostomy.
The date of reconnection it still to be determined but were hoping sometime between March and June.

I'm not experiencing any pain and have had some small leakage problems before so I may give it a few days to see if there are any changes, unless you suggest I bring it up to my doctor asap.

Hey Niks the pouch and anal area naturally produce lubrication which is quite watery and extremely hard to hold in in my experience next to impossible when sleeping though in my case that happened in the first few weeks of surgery, it's a little weird that you're suddenly experiencing it, but yeah it could just be from the diverging pouch not getting what it wants. You could always call your surgeons office and discuss it with them.

I have the same discharge as well and my surgeon said it's perfectly normal. I didn't have any for some time then one day the flood gates opened and I was passing a lot. I'm able to hold mine in. I can definitely tell when the pouch is full of mucus to pass out
