Hi,
Barrier spray won't hurt your stoma.
I used the Smith and Nephew barrier spray but found a link showing a clinical
test on Cavilon and they say, (marketing who knows) that Cavilon proved twice as effective as Smith and Nephew and the other competitors as well as less sting and more cohesion.
So, I can't give you my comparison between Smith and Nephew vs Cavilon spray because I am literally, a few hours into just trying my first Cavilon spray with appliance etc.
This is the link that comes up when I google Cavion Spray clinical tests. It comes up PDF on my tablet. I can't get the other site address to link for some reason.

Ironically I have just tried Cavlon Spray about 3 hours ago changing my appliance. Having a few more problems due to double lumen (loop ileo) and now that I'm healing more, it's 2 mos old, the 2nd lumen is becoming more flush to the skin so I'm running into problems like you've mentioned.
A few days ago, I tried duoderm extra thin. Cut a piece and rimmed it to my stoma at the trouble area. No liquid penetrated.
I even put Brava Powder and Spray on before duoderm. Tons of links of forum people using duoderm for trouble ileos for extra protection if you google.
I got the idea from this link. I'm getting more tomorrow to try again to see if I can prevent any leak under eakin seal at the lumen that is flush. And stretch my wear time from 1-2 days, to 3 at least.
Pictures here are great.

I use brava powder, spray, trying duoderm again tomorrow on my trouble spot like in this pic and then cover with eakin seal. I use conva tec 2 piece appliance. Started with Hollister and switched. Tried tons of samples though.
Duoderm is for wound healing. Duoderm extra thin(reg duoderm CGF is pretty thick, I have one and it's too thick for me for this. ) is like a second healing skin with healing properties and again, link above shows how she applied it. As said, I was googling what people were using on top of trying the adapt, coloplast, eakin seal and such, and that is what came up. Seemed to work the first time I tried it. I'll know again in a couple days if the 2nd change and application using it worked.
Good luck. xoxxo
