It's been about 2 weeks since my surgery. My staples are supposed to come out by now but my incision seems to be opening at certain spots of the 7 inch incision. It's leaking blood and a yellow substance.. I've been keeping a soft padding over it but should this be cause for concern? Or is this common

Is the yellow substance thick or opaque like pus or is it clear but looks yellow golden? When I had my takedown and she took the staples out of my incision I had a clear yellow liquid coming out for a few days and she said it was serous fluid and was no big deal. However if your incision looks red at all, is warm, or the liquid looks thick I would be concerned about infection.

I am 2 weeks post op from my proctocolectomy and I had my staples out last Sunday. They just put strips on the incision and they are pretty dried up at this point.

They sent me home with a tool to remove the staples; I decided against it and made an appointment with my PCP and had him remove the staples for me.

Since you have a 7" incision I'm assuming they had to do an open Surgery. Or was it Laproscopic surgery with an incision at the bikini line?

If you had an open surgery then you might take a little bit longer to heal than some of the other members of the forum who were able to have their surgeries Laparoscopically.

My incision took FOREVER to heal. After my surgeon took the staples out it completely opened up. I had the yellow gunk for a while but it wasn't infected. Infection signs to look for are redness, green pus, fever, pain. I had to pack it with gauze everyday. It took about 6 months to completely close up. The scar is pretty bad from it. Thank goodness it was a c section type incision so it's below the bikini line (not that I'm in bikinis anymore!) Unfortunately this happens sometimes.

I'm having a yellow substance and some blood. No smell or infection signs though. I was giving a staple remover and don't have a problem doing it myself, I took out a few but seems like it's separating when I do so I kind of want to leave them in
