Hi, I have an end ileostomy (and Crohn's) and have an ischemic stricture about 5cm behind the stoma. No evidence of Crohn's recurrence. Have tried one balloon dilation and it hasn't helped much yet, having another the day after tomorrow. Surgery is being discussed, but I've consulted with two surgeons who aren't in agreement. One says he can just cut a circle around the stoma, yank it out past the stricture, cut, and sew my new stoma to my abdomen. He says it might even be able to be done outpatient. The second surgeon wants to cut me wide open, look for other scar tissue and adhesions (no evidence there is any), make sure the stricture isn't adhered to anything, and then effectively do the same thing that the first surgeon said. He says it's too risky to pull the intestine without knowing what is going on behind it.
I obviously would rather go with option 1. I don't like major surgery. Has anyone had stricture surgery post-ileostomy before? What have your experiences been? Opinions?
