I have an ileostomy for just over a year now. Compounding the large bowel removal are the previous surgeries I've had, antrectomy with a Bilroth ll and a vagotomy. So a large part of my stomach has been removed and the vagal nerves that allow acids to breakdown intake have been cut. At times I experience high bile output with a liquid output. It is very corrosive to the base and consequently the bags don't last long. The diarrhea is pretty consistent and so my doctor has me on Welchol 625MG up to 6 times a day. It helps control the diarrhea but does not stop it completely. By the way, Welchol is a cholesterol treatment but one of the side effects is constipation. Doctors are treating IBS with this drug and have to be creative with coding so insurance will pay for it. It costs over $600/month. Still looking for the cause of the diarrhea. Hoping someone can help!
