Curious Surgical Question

It's too soon for me to tell, no issues so far. When I went for my third surgery my surgeon did say due to my prior surgeries there was a good chance my surgery would be open due to scar tissue. I was lucky and my 3rd could still be done lapro. He was actually surprised at the lack of scar tissue.

Now that I am healthy I wanted to have a tubal ligation and stop my birth control. However my OB and GI both said they wouldn't recommend even that minor of a surgery because of the risk of there already being too much scar tissue or this surgery causing more and causing issues with my ostomy. But like with everything I think every person is different.

My OB did say in patients that have had surgeries similar to mine it is not uncommon for scar tissue to adhere the small intestines to the belly button. For tubal ligation they usually go in that way and her concern was she wouldn't be able to.

I think it's pretty individual. I know some people are more prone to it than other people. My surgeon said I didn't have scar tissue when he went in to do my surgeries - even after the previous steps. I know that doesn't mean I am in the clear forever, but it sounded hopeful. I agree with Keith, if it's not a problem, there's likely no reason to worry. Of course, if you're having a future surgery, like cupcakes, it can cause concern, especially with a history of having had it in the past.

Hi, I have to say that my surgeon almost called off my JPouch reversal because I had so many adhesions. my JPouch is adhered to many other vital bits, so he left it intact but disconnected, which I wasn't happy about, but understand why he didn't take it. He said he would only remove if the risk was greater by leaving it in. He told me some people don't get any and others like me get a lot, it is a case by case scenario.
