Flare up with ileostomy...help

I don't quite understand. You are having a burning sensation when stool is eliminated into your bag? Have you spoken with your GI doctor about this? I had ulcerative proctitis. My surgeon removed my rectum and colon (I have a permanent ileo) but left the anus (only an inch or so). I now have active disease in the anus. I need yearly biopsies to make sure there is no dysplasia or cancer, but have been inserting the proctofoam every other night, which seems to help. I have a friend who has Crohn's Disease and still has part of her colon, but has a colostomy. She has active disease in the part of her colon the surgeon left and is on Remicade. Have you tried any biologics to treat the disease?

That sucks. Your post is part of the reason why I'm not particularly rushing to go back to having an ileostomy - it isn't a cure. That said, my small bowel was disease-free for the two years I had it, so I wouldn't know what a flare-up with an ileo feels like.

If biologics have failed, then you may need a resection and refashioning of the stoma. Hopefully it won't come to that, but it might... Good luck with the specialist next week.
