Just wanted to give an update.
It has been ten years since I had my total colectomy due to colonic inertia . I am still having six BMs per day. Sometimes more or sometimes less. But it isn't with the same urgency as it was when I first had my colectomy. If I eat something that gives me loose BMs then I do have to rush to the bathroom. It doesn't happen often. Otherwise, there isn't a problem.
No blockages except one small one that happened shortly after I had surgery. It was resolved with lots of walking and enemas. No surgery to correct it was necessary.
I lost a lot of weight from the surgery. The doctor informed me that I would gain it back. He was somewhat correct. I did gain some of it back but of the weight I gained back I have lost half of that.
I have never had any regrets over having this surgery. It was one of the best decisions I have made with my life. And I am so thankful for the doctor who performed this surgery.
