I'm 18 years old, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease when I was 14. On December 21 2016 I had a small bowel resection, my surgeon removed 12 inches of my small intestine and 5 inches of my colon. He had to give me a temporary loop ileostomy as I was too weak to be put back together. I had my ileostomy reversal on March 13 2017, so I'm about
5 weeks post-op and I'm still having bowel troubles. I go 3-4 times a day right now and my movements aren't very solid. My surgeon and nurses told me I should regain normalcy (once a day and solid) about
6 weeks post-op but that's a week away and I don't really think I'll be near normal yet. I was wondering if anyone has had this surgery and roughly how long it took them to regain somewhat of a normalcy in their bowel habits. I'm on a low residue diet and I eat lots of binding foods (rice, bananas pasta etc) and they don't seem to help. Are there any tips for helping regain control and normalcy after surgery?

Hi. How are you doing now? I wish I knew more but it seems like they took out a lot to say you will get back to completely normal. You might want to get a second opinion from an ostomy nurse or GI Doctor. You might also inquire about
adding acacia powder or psyllium seed powder to help. Maybe someone else will chime in who has more experience in this area.

I'm doing slightly better now, I have some days where I'm only once a day and others when im 3 times a day. My GI is placing me on HUMIRA, hopefully that will help settle my symptoms as I've been off my Crohn's meds for almost 7 months.

Good that you have seen some improvement. Hopefully the Humira will calm things down even further.
