Hollister vs Coloplast

Hi all I'm new to this forum but I like that there are so many active people on here. So I have a question for you bag wearers out there. I got my Illostomy on 3/4/16 and have a few months ago finally gotten over my pity party and am living life again.

My main question for this thread is which do you feel is better. I was using the coloplast mio-click but i kept getting skin iritation soi was recommended to move over to holisters softer wafer, which was great but it seems like the holister bags are much more fragile and can come off the wafer easier.

I wear a stealth belt so it seems like its more comfortable, but I'm concerned as i want to get into more physical exercise aka i'm a martial artist who has not trained in 4 years because of UC and the surgery and the holister even though since moving to it i haven't had a wafer problem in 6 months but i keep ripping bags. Any thoughts would be great.

I agree with you about the Hollister bags, I didn't care for them and would want to change the bag out every 2 days even when I didn't need to change the flange. I also didn't like or trust the Tupperware rings.

I use the Coloplast Mio flex with adhesive coupling. The adhesive is lower profile and more comfortable than the rings. At the beginning I had skin issues and the Coloplast rep mentioned they have a wafer from another line that is compatible with adhesive coupling of the Mio bag. I don't know the name my skin issue resolved and I stuck with the Mio. Might be worth a call to Coloplast if you like the Mio bag but not the Mio wafer.

Oh, I have some input for you!! I have a permanent ileo since June of 2010. In the hospital, they started me on Hollister bags. Long story short, I had two of them break on me...yep, split right out the seams and out came the poo. The first time it happened, we were at the Borgata Comedy Club in AC. Thank God I had eaten a ton of wintergreen mints beforehand because that is exactly what it smelled like. A fragrant aroma, if I must say so myself! Much better than had I eaten fish. Good thing I was also wearing black slacks. I went to the ladies room and hadn't even realized the bag split! Well, I quickly cleaned myself up, stuffed some paper towels inside and told my hubby, "no gambling tonight". Thank God we keep our RV outside of Smithville, only a 20 minute ride. The second time the bag split must not have been so memorable, because I cannot remember where or when it happened, just that it did. I switched over to Coloplast Sensura bags and never looked back. They are sturdy! I even wear them swimming, except, be careful in chlorine pools because the chlorine does have a tendency to chew away at the glue. I use Eakin seals around the stoma. Once in awhile, I will get a bit irritated around the stoma if some leakage gets under there, especially if I eat spicy foods. Then I use the tincture Tom recommended. Works like a charm.
