Ileostomy Reversal Procedure

I am new to forum. Please help if you can. I am scheduled to have ileostomy reversal next week. My doctor said his closure when healed will look like a bullet wound.

I have incisional scars that have healed nicely and fade over time.

I am concerned about cosmetic appearances with the purse string closure vs straight line incision. Please I welcome feedback. Thank you.

I've had both a colostomy and an ileostomy and both were left open to heal from the inside out. Maybe someone will chime in who has had that closure specifically. My colostomy was an open hole and my ileostomy had a penrose drain inserted for a few days and just a couple stitches but was also open to heal from the inside out. My scar is fairly noticeable because both ostomies were in the same place.

I had a straight line closure of my colostomy, with a drain for a couple of days. I had had a hernia right beside the colostomy, so I got a piece of mesh also. I wish the surgeon had removed a little fat on the top side of the scar because I have a long lump there that hangs over a little.

Be happy to have the reversal. It will look lots better that the bag.

I had a wound that looked like a bullet-hole and it healed like a straight line. I wish I could tell you which option would look better but I am only familiar with what I have. Mine is about .5 - 1 inch and it's raised and darker. i hate it, but what can you do? I am not going to fight to do anything to change it, it's not big, and it's not a huge concern. Even in a bikini, it's a fairly small scar, it is probably obvious to ostomates that it's an ex-stoma, but other people would have no idea what it's from. Perhaps if I was having another procedure I may try to have it improved, but I don't see that happening anytime soon & i know nothing is going to make it disappear 100%, so perhaps it's pointless to mess with it. It's kind of an eyesore on my stomach that is otherwise free of scars. In the bigger picture, I don't care too much.
