Ok, now I’m feeling down

One week post surgery and I’m feeling down. I’m alone all day and by the evening I’m sick and tired of going to the bathroom. I have a puzzle set up on the dining room but I don’t feel like sitting there for too long of a time. I just watch tv mostly.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to start feeling normal again? I haven’t tried driving yet. And to be honest I’m not sure I can be away from the bathroom long enough to go anywhere anyhow.

Trust me, I can relate. I was there... Dare I say there was a time when I worried things were never going to be better? I really had to bite my tongue and wait. It's frustrating and upsetting, but it will improve. It doesn't take days or weeks, it takes months. Try to remember how you are now, then compare to how you are in a few weeks & you will see that you're improving. The darkness coming so early also doesn't help. You should get out and walk around the block. You will start getting used to the feelings and be able to hold it more. Right after surgery, I had a lot of gas pain and I was scared to pass it because i had bad luck with gas early on. I would get up from bed to go to the bathroom to pass gas. It was awful. You will slowly get better and better, but I wouldn't judge anything for a good 2 months, or even longer.

Normal, yes. Functional, no!

I went to a holiday party about 4 weeks after takedown, I did use the bathroom there once, but it was such a small thing to deal with compared to having active UC and going repeatedly & being stuck in there for long periods each time. I even had a martini and ate everything i wanted that day. It was basically a reintroduction to normal life party for me, a holiday party for everyone else.

I am happy you got out in the sun. That is good for you.
