I had a loop ileostomy about
9 weeks ago. They took a foot of my colon. I am supposed to have a reversal in about
3 months. This past week I noticed I feel like I have gas or I have to have a bowel movement the normal way. Is this normal!

Not too sure but I’d imagine it could happen. IF you have a loop, it’s still somewhat connected so maybe some gas is getting by? Do you end up passing the gas or just feel the pressure like u have to?

It's normal to get urges to go, because the colon still produces mucus even after it has been diverted from the rest of the digestive tract. If there is any inflammation in your rectum (from IBD or diversion colitis), that will make the urges even stronger, since rectal inflammation often causes tenesmus (a feeling of needing to go, but not being able to pass anything or very little). Next time you get a sensation of needing to go, I'd try going to the toilet the normal way and seeing if you can pass any mucus.

Hi, I know the discomfort of having this. A few days before, I feel discomfort and I do eventually expel a bit of gas and always feel better after doing it. I also pass what looks like a bit of stool, but heard it's not actually stool but mucous that has collected in the intestine. It doesn't happen often but it's helpful when it does.
I would mention this to your doctor just to make sure, everything is okay.
