Can't eat anything

I had Ulcerative Colitis for 10 years, went several years before that undiagnosed. Went on steroid and Asacol and pantroprzole out of hospital. Was on Asacol for a couple of years, but kept flaring. Went on Humira for a year or so. When that stopped working, I went on Remicade. When that stopped working, I had an ileostomy with total colectomy. The surgery was 2 and a half years ago. I can hardly eat anything as far as variety. I can't eat any fruit, ripe avocados any fiber, no fresh vegetables, etc. Really just eating chicken, fish, gluten free oatmeal, and mashed potatoes and drinking kale and cucumber juice (pulp filtered out completely). I eat 6 times a day, 4 ounces per meal. I have had extensive testing for Chrohns, H Pylori, stomach function, pancreas issues, etc, and all are negative. I have heat burn and can't tolerate proton pump inhibitors. I have bloating, gas, and my throat feels like it is closing up when I eat. Wondering if anyone else has these symptoms or knows what might be causing them.

Hi, This sounds very much like my experience, however I didn’t have the throat issues. While everyone else kept saying they could eat anything I couldn’t eat any fiber. Turns out I had a hernia that went years undetected. Was in the hospital several times every year with blockages. They finally discovered it about 12 yrs after my surgery. It showed up on a c-scan. Have they done one of those on you? And the throat might be a separate issue, maybe not. But it closing sounds like a allergic reaction. Have you been tested for food allergies? I can’t eat regular bananas, they make my lips and throat tingle but I can eat the organic ones so I must be sensitive to the pesticides they use. Hope you can get to the bottom of this. Might need a new Dr if the one your seeing now can’t help.

Hello - thanks for thought about the hernia, I have not been tested for one. I found out yesterday that I am positive for H Pylori. They tested me a couple months ago and said I was negative. I asked a different specialist to retest and it comes back positive. Go figure. We thought about food allergies and my doctor who said H Pylori was negative said food allergy tests aren't very accurate. I think it may be time to find another doctor. Thanks!

I have GERD and it causes my throat to have that closing up feeling

It sounds as if your immune system/digestive tract may have become hyper sensitive. This is not good for nutrition or morale. I did come across this years ago. This must happen with a few different tummy conditions. Perhaps you could get a referral? The problem is that some innocent looking foods cause havoc. I do hope your GP will be helpful.

Outofhere, if you will check out the GERD forum here at HW, you will find many members over there that have swallowing issues related to GERD problems.
