I am a woman 63 years old and I wonder if anyone can give advice on how to protect a stoma from seat belt or grandchildren kicking it, bike riding. I know they sell some guards but they look so uncomfortable. Just was hoping someone found good device or solution.

They do make a plastic stoma guard that is pretty rigid. It sits in top of your stoma. I have never used one though. It looks too uncomfortable to me. They make fluffy seat belt guards. They help alittle.

I have smacked mine on a corner a few times. It was bloody and bruised but continued to function. Thank God.

I have used my hernia belt and felt that it gave me support and protection. It's really hot in the summer though-so not a good long term plan.

I need to find something too but so far haven't found anything that looks like it would be comfortable and work.

I did try making a guard from plastic and was quite pleased with it. Called it an 'Ostobelter' but found it pushed the bag off once and I lost confidence in it. Stomas are tougher than I first thought, not using any protection now.

Hi clo2014, Soon after my surgery I began making a shield out of plastic items. The last one was constructed with a piece of plastic mixing bowl and other items, it's all a bit vague now but I still have an old google site that might help with ideas for making one. I gave up on it all and now don't use anything. I find it easier to just keep adjusting the position of the seat belt, etc.

I haven't found anything that really works..... The spacers are just too uncomfortable.

I'm going to buy a seat belt adjuster and one of those soft covers for it.... Hopefully that will help while in the car.

I was baking something the other day and when I opened the oven door I could feel my stoma drawing back inwards away from the heat. Now I'm wondering if we should be doing something to protect it from that.... Not to mention those bags are all plastic. I wonder if they melt?.
