Ok, for the first while with my ileostomy I was fine, no itching or irritation.  Now...I can't stop itching!!!!!  I do take Benadryl but I'm pregnant and I don't want to continue taking so much of it even tho the docs tell me it's ok.

I've ordered some new wafers from Hollister (I've been using Convetec since the surgery) to see if maybe I'm just allergic to my current ones. 

Also right around my stoma the skin is very red and inflamed...and when I put the wafer on with the paste it burns like crazy!!  I use sween cream and it seems to help alot with redness but the itching is making me nuts!

What are some alternative products I could try to stop this itching/irritation?  Thanks in advance!!

I'm 5 months post op with a permanent colostomy from rectal cancer.  I haven't had any skin problems so can't speak from personal experience.

However ... check out the current thread on the UOAA Discussion Board about skin issues.  Yeast infections seem the most difficult to control.  Previous discussions re the use of Nystatin power, adhesive wipes, allergies, etc may be appropriate for you, too. All I use is the Nexcare spray from WalMart when I change wafers - no Eakin seals, rings, or anything.

Westcoast Joe here. I have had yeast infections multiple times.When it happpens I take the yeast infection pills that a woman would take and I use Nystop , which is a prescription powder. Also to prevent the burning i found that no-sting Skin-prep does not burn. Its made by Smith & Nephew ( #59420600). I think yeast infections are the most painfull thing in the world. I hope this helps and good luck. Also, change the bag every couple of days until you feel better. Westy
