Hi everyone! I'm from the IBS forum and I was wondering what are the first steps to see if this is an option for chronic C if everything else has been tried.  I've never been tested for colonic inertia.  If this can help me it'll save my life.  Do you always need a bag, I thought  I heard a few people say no.  Thanks!

You need to request a sitz marker test to determine whether or not you have colonic inertia. The surgery to correct CI does not necessarily have an ileostomy, it's usually a straight hook-up (the small intestine) to the rectum. If you do indeed have CI then I recommend a colo-rectal surgeon who has LOTS of experience in surgery for this condition.

My APR surgery was a result of rectal cancer.  Permanent colostomy for 6 months now.  It is possible, with a colostomy, to irrigate and to wear only a small stoma cover most of the time.

Please do locate a qualified colo-rectal surgeon and get his/her opinion of your history and current situation.  The not-knowing is what is so difficult for all of us!  Go to the source for a better appraisal and recommendation.  Life doesn't have to be so hard.
