ileostomy after medical nightmare - need some help please

A friend of mine is recovering from a nearly fatal case of septicemia, resulting from a laparascopy gone wrong which involved a ruptured intestine (sorry i originally wrote bladder). (nice, huh?!!!!) I've looked through tons of boards, and this seems the most active and the most relevant to her experience.

I'm looking for information for her her family about the recovery & recuperation process. How much time? What stages is she likely to go through as she recovers & recuperates? What sort of special needs will she (and her family) likely experience?

I'd appreciate any information, links, etc, that you as a group can offer.

You mentioned a ruptured bladder. So are you referring to a urostomy??? And is it permanent???

I should have said ruptured intestine . . . sorry.

I don't think that this is permanent. They had to shunt the lower intestine in order to repair multiple perforations to it, but from what I understand, it is temporary and once the wound heals (6+months?) she'll be able to have the colostomy reversed. (sorry if I'm not quite getting the terminology right--this is all new to me, and I'm trying to remember everything!)

Okay then, and remember everyone is different, but if your friend's surgery was NOT the result of an illness she should feel pretty good in a week or 2. It all depends on her and how active she is after she's home from the hospital. Walk A LOT!!!! Not only does it strengthen the body, but it helps get all the toxins from surgery out of the body sooner.
